One of the best ways to know improvement within oneself is by being able to distinguish how similar situations are being handled differently over time. This skill develops when there is a habit of reflection, contemplation, or observation of one’s own behaviors and state of mind. Specific examples of questions that come to mind are:
- How would the version of myself from last year handle this current situation, and why?; and
- How is this different than the way I plan to handle it right now, and why?
If there is improvement then the differences start to become obvious.
